Building sustainability in the automotive industry
High Precision Motor Products Ltd (HPMP) are an automotive business with a desire address sustainability in their operations to differentiate them in a busy sector, build their brand and win more clients. Understanding how sustainability relates to their work was a key challenge.
Skillnet Carlow Kilkenny contacted Change by Degrees (CbD) to conduct a one-to-one series of online workshops with Sandra O’Reilly, HPMP. CbD aimed to better understand the pain points of the organisation and identify opportunities to embed sustainability practices into every element of their offering.
How we helped
Understanding sustainability and the UN SDGs:
Madeleine Murray and Sandra O’Reilly spent 3 hours working through the Change by Degrees SDG 10 Point Plan© and GAMPER©. The aim was to educate and build capacity within the organisation to understand what sustainability is and why it matters. It was also an opportunity to introduce HPMP to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and how they can be used as a framework to build a sustainability strategy.
Refining a sustainability strategy:
HPMP spent the weeks between the first and second meeting creating a sustainability strategy that aligned with their priority SDGs under the three pillars of sustainability – environmental, social and economic. In the second meeting, CbD gave feedback and refined the work so that Sandra could present the draft strategy to her senior team.
HPMP now have a sustainability strategy that they use to win work and communicate their purpose as a sustainable company. They have set goals and targets that will help them achieve this mission and recognise the importance of operating sustainably to drive down carbon emissions and have legitimacy with their stakeholders. HPMP strive to be leaders in their sector and share their learnings.
“We recently worked with Madeleine to help us to develop a sustainability strategy for our business. Madeleine has great enthusiasm and ideas and helped us translate all the terminology into meaningful and practical activities that we can implement to help play our part and have a positive impact on our community and the environment. Thanks to Madeleine, we have a plan of sustainable actions for our business and while we have a long way to go she has set us on the right path. We are delighted to have had the opportunity to work with Change by Degrees – thank you!”Sandra O’Reilly, HPMP
